How does the Body Fat Calculator work?

First, BMI is calculated: weight ÷ height(m)². Then the Deurenberg formula: BF% = 1.2 × BMI + 0.23 × age − 10.8 × sex − 5.4 (sex: 1 = male, 0 = female). Accuracy ±3–5 percentage points.

Frequently asked questions

What is a normal body fat percentage?
For men, 10–20% is fit, 20–25% is normal. For women: 18–28% fit, 25–35% normal. Athletes often have 6–13% (men) or 14–20% (women).
How accurate is the BMI-based method?
The Deurenberg formula has an accuracy of ±3–5 percentage points. For more precise measurement, DEXA scan, hydrodensitometry or BIA scales are recommended.
Why is body fat percentage more important than weight?
Two people with the same weight can have very different body compositions. Muscle weighs more than fat – someone who exercises may be heavier but have less body fat.
