Como funciona a Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) Calculator

The calculation is based on the Widmark formula: BAC (‰) = alcohol (g) ÷ (body weight (kg) × r × 10) − (0.15 × hours).

The reduction factor r accounts for body composition differences: males = 0.68 (more muscle mass, more body water), females = 0.55. Alcohol in grams is calculated as: volume (ml) × ABV (%) × 0.789 (density of ethanol). The body processes alcohol at roughly 0.10–0.15‰ per hour; this calculator uses 0.15 ‰/h. The legal driving limit in Germany is 0.5‰ (approx. 0.05% BAC in US/UK terms).

Disclaimer: This calculator provides estimates only. Individual factors such as food intake, medications and metabolism can significantly affect actual BAC.

Perguntas frequentes

When can I legally drive again?
The legal BAC limit for driving in Germany is 0.5‰ (0.05%). In the US, most states use 0.08%. Zero tolerance applies to drivers under 21 and new licence holders in many countries. The calculator shows when your BAC drops below 0.5‰ — but when in doubt, don't drive. Individual metabolism varies and the formula is an estimate.
Why do women get drunk faster than men?
Women typically have a lower body water ratio, which is captured in the Widmark reduction factor (r = 0.55 for women vs. 0.68 for men). This means that at the same weight and alcohol intake, women will reach a higher BAC. Women also tend to have lower levels of alcohol dehydrogenase, the enzyme that breaks down alcohol in the stomach.
Does coffee or water speed up alcohol breakdown?
No. Coffee, water, food or exercise cannot speed up how fast your liver processes alcohol. The breakdown rate of roughly 0.1–0.15‰ per hour is fixed by your metabolism. These measures may help you feel more alert, but they do not lower your actual blood alcohol level — only time does.
